Filmmaker TJ Gnanavel, who is busy with the post-production of Superstar Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, seems to have already lined up an interesting project for his next. The buzz is that in his upcoming directorial outing, he will tackle one of the infamous crime stories in Tamil Nadu's history.
According to sources, Gnanavel will make a movie based on the life and times of P. Rajagopal, the founder of the popular food chain Saravana Bhavan. The movie is titled Dosa King, which was also Rajagopal’s nickname, attesting to his phenomenal success in the restaurant business.
Gnanavel has teamed up with writer-director Hemanth Rao to co-write the screenplay for the movie. The film will narrate events from the point of view of Jeevajothi Santhakumar, who suffered irrevocable personal tragedies due to Rajagopal's superstition, coupled with greed, wealth, and power.
It's being mounted as a pan-India movie, with Junglee Pictures coming on board as producers. The filmmakers have not yet revealed the main cast who will portray Rajagopal and Jeevajothi. More details are awaited.
In the meantime, Gnanavel is busy supervising the post-production of Vettaiyan. The director received a huge break following the critical success of his previous movie, Jai Bhim, starring Tamil star Suriya. Although Jai Bhim was released directly on a streaming platform due to pandemic restrictions, the movie catapulted Gnanavel to fame, opening the doors for him to direct Rajinikanth in Vettaiyan.
In Vettaiyan, Rajinikanth plays a seasoned police officer. Gnanavel revealed that he has aimed to highlight Rajinikanth's impeccable acting talent in the movie. "You can expect to see a fresh Rajinikanth in Vettaiyan," Gnanavel promised, expressing his delight at how the film is shaping up.
Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, promotions for Vettaiyan are already underway. The filmmakers recently released the movie's first single, "Manasilaayo," which also features Manju Warrier, to a rousing reception from fans.
