Who is Lee Hyori: Artist behind the Korean song '10 Minutes' going VIRAL 10 years after its release

While artists like PSY and groups like BTS have made a huge impact, followed by BLACKPINK, TXT, Stray Kids, SEVENTEEN, NewJeans, and now recently ILLIT, songs from South Korea have been charting high on various music charts. However, out of nowhere, a 10-year-old song has been going viral on Instagram reels called "10 Minutes".

This song is by South Korean artist Lee Hyori, renowned as both a singer and television personality. She emerged as one of the leading figures in K-pop during her era, igniting a tidal wave of popularity and epitomizing the essence of the term "IT girl" in Korea throughout the 2000s.

Now, in the past few weeks, Lee Hyori's hit song "10 Minutes" has resurged across online platforms, captivating audiences. Originally released as the lead single from her solo debut album "Stylish…E" on August 13, 2003, this song combines hip-hop elements with an R&B foundation and features an addictive hook set against a backdrop of heavy drums.

Why is "10 Minutes" going viral?

The song has been making waves across various social media platforms, particularly on Instagram reels and TikTok. She reignited the magic of this iconic track during her performance at Sungkyunkwan University's annual music festival in 2023, leaving the audience spellbound. She later performed once more at Genfest 2023 in Vietnam, reigniting its popularity. Many even heard this song when BTS rapper SUGA sang it during one of the "Run BTS" episodes.

The song garnered further attention when it was covered by TWICE's Momo, Jihyo, and Nayeon during their fan meet, "ONCE AGAIN IN SEOUL", in 2023. Dressed in iconic 2000s fashion, the three K-pop idols delivered a memorable rendition.

ASTRO singer and K-drama actor Cha Eun Woo also covered this hit song on "The Seasons: Lee Hyori's Red Carpet" in February 2024. Cha Eun Woo appeared to promote his debut album, "ENTITY".
