South Korean boy group Stray Kids is set to perform at this year's American Music Awards (AMAs). The group, under JYP Entertainment, will become the second K-pop act to perform at the AMAs, following Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS). This performance, however, will deliver a special tribute honouring the legacy of boy bands.

Celebrating its 50th year, the AMAs is one of the top three major pop music awards shows in the U.S., alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. As soon as the news broke, Stray Kids' fans, known as Stays, cheered with joy, while others began speculating which boy bands would be honoured during the tribute.

Shortly after, theories started circulating, fueled by an old AMA social media post featuring photos of boy bands like Backstreet Boys, BTS, NSYNC, and One Direction, with the caption: "These boy bands will never be Bye Bye Bye from our hearts #AMAs50 #AMAs."

Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) quickly speculated that iconic songs from these groups and more would be featured in the tribute at the special event.

    About Stray Kids' performance:

The AMAs announced on Thursday (U.S. time) that the K-pop octet will be among the performers for the AMA's 50th Anniversary Special, airing on October 6. Last year, Stray Kids won the Top K-pop Album category at the Billboard Music Awards and Best K-pop at the MTV Video Music Awards.

They recently kicked off their "dominATE" world tour in Seoul, with upcoming shows in Melbourne on October 19, Sydney on October 26, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on November 2.
