The Paris Olympic Games 2024 have begun in full swing, and artists from various countries are seen cheering for their nations on social media. However, one artist who received a special shoutout as a representative of their country was Bangtan Sonyeondan, aka one of the biggest groups in the world — BTS. The musical group was recognized as a representative of South Korea alongside kimchi and hanbok during the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. While kimchi, a food, and hanbok, traditional clothing, are well-known symbols of South Korea, being mentioned in the same breath as these iconic elements was surely a significant honour for BTS.

On July 27, BTS' RM, aka Kim Namjoon, took to his Instagram story to react to BTS being mentioned. He captioned the post with "bang kim han let's get it," celebrating the mention. The picture he shared highlighted facts about South Korea, including its capital, population, language, and currency, as well as three notable aspects of Korean culture: "bang-tansonyeondan (BTS)/kimchi/hanbok."
Not just the leader of BTS, even singer V, aka Kim Taehyung, posted a screenshot of the same, but he added one more name that represents South Korea. He included the band's fanbase, "ARMY," to the "Things that represent South Korea: BTS/Kimchi/Hanbok."
Soon enough, the fandom started trending various tags, including "BTS NATION'S PRIDE," on social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter).
Where are BTS' RM and V?
Both artists are currently serving in South Korean military service. In fact, they enlisted on the same day — December 11, 2023. The other members — Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, and Jeon Jung-kook — are also enlisted in the South Korean mandatory military service. Kim Seokjin, the eldest member of the group, was the first to enlist and the first to be released as well. He was one of the 11,000 Paris 2024 Olympics torchbearers, causing BTS fans to cheer and feel proud.
The 7 Korean men, who went on a hiatus to complete their mandatory service, promised the fans to make a comeback by 2025.
