Brie Larson, the Academy Award-winning actress who's rocked rom-com supporting roles in flicks like The Spectacular Now and Trainwreck, is now front and center in Lessons in Chemistry, where she gets to spin her own love tale.

In the Apple TV+ series, Larson plays Elizabeth Zott and spills, "What got me hooked on this story is how love is this big, sacred thing. How and why it hits you is like life's magic, but let me tell ya, it's a tricky one to wrap your head around."

    Navigating Emotional Depths

Figuring out the best way to capture the struggle of translating Bonnie Garmus' novel onto the small screen was a collaborative effort for Brie Larson. Serving as an executive producer alongside showrunner Lee Eisenberg, who developed the series, Larson delved into the challenge of embodying Elizabeth Zott, a chemist faced with unexpected twists when she falls for research chemist Calvin Evans (Lewis Pullman) at Hastings Laboratory and confronts a devastating loss.

Larson shares that, "I’m just a lot more emotional than she is." She goes on to explain her approach, describing how, during takes, she would allow herself a big cry to release emotions before getting back into character. "Elizabeth just isn’t the crying type. She doesn’t tap into that emotional space."

    Beyond the Superhero Realm

"For me, it was a refreshing change to delve into something warm and affectionate, steering away from the constant focus on the world's darker aspects," shares Larson, currently gracing theaters as Captain Marvel in her latest film, The Marvels.

She adds, "The film offers a sweet portrayal of how working with someone you love can be, emphasizing the unique minds, individuality, and shared passion for science that unite the characters. It's a genuinely heartwarming perspective."

Brie Larson is really killing it in "Lessons in Chemistry" and "The Marvels." She's showing us all that she can go from this intense chemistry drama to being the badass Captain Marvel without missing a beat. Whether she's dealing with love and loss or saving the world on the big screen, Larson's got that special something that keeps us hooked.
