August gets exciting with LE SSERAFIM's return! Meet the 5-member girl group under HYBE and Source Music

Be it performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival or charting their songs on the Billboard Hot 100, South Korean pop group LE SSERAFIM has been making waves across the globe. The girl group, formed by Source Music under HYBE Labels, consists of five members: Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae.

They are now set to make a big splash this monsoon, as they are gearing up for their fourth mini-album, "CRAZY" set to release at the end of August 30. The album promises a mix of genres, featuring EDM-based house, techno, rock, and hip-hop. As the girls prepare for their return, let's get to know them a little better.

Chaewon

Stage / Birth Name: Kim Chaewon

Position: Leader, Vocalist, Dancer

Birthday: August 1st, 2000

Born in Seoul, South Korea, she was the fourth member to be introduced. Before this, she was a member of the K-pop girl group IZ*ONE. She trained for 11 months at Woollim Entertainment before participating in Produce 48. In 2021, Chaewon departed from Woollim Entertainment to join Source Music.

Sakura

Birth Name: Miyawaki Sakura 

Position: Vocalist, Rapper, Dancer

Birthday: March 19th, 1998

Born in Kagoshima City, Japan, she was the first member to be revealed. Like her peers, she is also a former IZ*ONE member. On December 8, 2021, Sakura launched her own cosmetics brand, CRAN BY MOLAK. On March 14, 2022, it was announced that she signed a contract with Source Music.

Yunjin

Stage / Birth Name: Huh Yunjin

Position: Vocalist, Rapper

Birthday: October 8th, 2001

Born in Seoul, South Korea, she grew up in New York, USA. She was the sixth and final member to be revealed. As a PLEDIS Entertainment trainee, she participated in Produce 48. Before that, she trained at SM Entertainment as well. She developed a passion for opera, influenced by her grandmother who was a vocalist. She has so far co-written 6 songs released by LE SSERAFIM.

Kazuha

Birth Name: Nakamura Kazuha

Position: Sub-Vocalist, Rapper, Dancer

Birthday: August 9th, 2003

Born in Kochi and raised in Osaka, Japan from the age of 2 to 16, she also spent time in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 2020 to 2021, where she took ballet classes. A professional ballerina, she began studying ballet at the age of 3. She is the fifth member to be revealed and has the shortest training period among all LE SSERAFIM members, having trained for just three months. 

Eunchae

Stage / Birth Name: Hong Eunchae

Position: Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Maknae

Birthday: November 10th, 2006

Born in Miryang, South Korea, she was the third member to be revealed. She previously auditioned for JYP Entertainment and Pledis Entertainment before becoming a Source Music trainee in January 2021. On February 10, 2023, Eunchae took over as the new female MC of Music Bank, alongside actor Lee Chae Min.

Kim Garam - Former member of the group

In early April 2022, just before the debut, several bullying allegations against Garam resurfaced. In response, HYBE denied the accusations. However, on May 20, 2022, it was announced that Garam would take a hiatus due to psychological issues stemming from the ongoing bullying scandal.

Later, on July 19, 2022, HYBE and Source Music announced that they had terminated their exclusive contract with Garam.
