Twisters is here! It's the sequel to the 1996 tornado-chaser hit Twister, bringing all the stormy excitement with a modern twist. Lead actor Glen Powell shared with Vogue that the movie is its own story, distinct from the original.
Powell revealed that during his time working with Tom Cruise on Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise emphasized the importance of large-scale movies connecting with audiences worldwide across different territories. Powell believes this aspect is crucial for the appeal of Twisters.
Penned by Mark L. Smith known for The Revenant and helmed by Lee Isaac Chung, the Oscar-nominated writer-director of Minari, Twisters sticks to its roots, focusing on tornadoes like its predecessor. However, don't anticipate seeing any of the original characters in this sequel.
The Creative Team Behind Twisters
Powell takes on the role of Tyler Owens, a social media influencer and self-proclaimed Tornado Wrangler, who hunts storms for both adrenaline rushes and social media validation. Javi (played by Anthony Ramos) persuades his friend Kate Cooper (portrayed by Daisy Edgar-Jones), a cautious storm tracker to join him in Oklahoma to test new tornado-tracking technology.
In the classic Twister, a group of scientists and storm chasers, headed by Jo (Helen Hunt) and Bill (Bill Paxton), tracks a string of tornadoes to field-test a revolutionary technology and collect vital storm data. "Twisters" was filmed right in the heart of Tornado Alley for an authentic touch. The majority of the movie was shot at Prairie Surf Studios in Oklahoma City.
