Zendaya, when asked about the possibility of further sequels beyond Dune: Part Two, along with co-stars Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler, can only offer shrugs. The actress, known for her role as the Fremen warrior Chani in both Denis Villeneuve's 2021 hit 'Dune' and its upcoming sequel, expresses her enthusiasm for the prospect of a Part Three being greenlit, stating that she woulld love to see it happen.
"I loved seeing Florence in this," Zendaya remarks about her co-star Florence Pugh, who joins the cast in Part Two as the daughter of Christopher Walken's Emperor Shaddam IV.
Villeneuve's Faithful Rendition of Frank Herbert's Dune
Derived from Frank Herbert’s revered sci-fi series, Villeneuve's two Dune films faithfully adapt the storyline of the original 1965 novel. Chalamet takes on the role of Paul Atreides, embarking on a voyage through space to the desert planet Arrakis, where treachery lurks at every turn.
Shortly after its premiere in theaters and on HBO Max in 2021, production company Legendary Entertainment and distributor Warner Bros. announced the greenlighting of a sequel to Dune due to its box office success. Additionally, at the subsequent Academy Awards, the film secured six Oscars.
Marveling at Villeneuve's Vision for Dune
While Zendaya admits, "I don't know anything" regarding specific details, she acknowledges Villeneuve's ability to create a vivid and captivating world. Having listened to the book multiple times, she attempted to visualize its elements in her mind, and upon witnessing what the director and his team have brought to life, she is left in awe.
Originally set for a November 2023 release but postponed due to Hollywood's strikes last year, Dune: Part Two continues the epic saga of Paul Atreides as he joins forces with Chani and the Fremen, embarking on a quest for vengeance against those responsible for his family's downfall.
In the new film, Zendaya and Chalamet are joined by Butler, Pugh, Walken, and Léa Seydoux, alongside returning cast members Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.
