Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's core superwomen form a tight-knit trio in The Marvels, though by the end, one of them is stuck in a whole other universe and another is forming her own young Avengers crew. Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels brings together a group – powerful space hero Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), teen do-gooder Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and astronaut Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) – whose light-based powers become entangled.
Ancient Artifacts and Wormholes:
United against the Kree villain Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton), they assemble to thwart her sinister plans. Utilizing an ancient artifact, Dar-Benn creates wormholes, draining resources from diverse planets to rejuvenate her ravaged home world, Hala.
Having transformed Hala with a fresh atmosphere and water, Dar-Benn seizes Kamala's wristband, combining it with her own for a plan to harness their combined power. Intent on stealing our world's sun to reignite Hala's galaxy, a clash with Carol results in Dar-Benn exploding, tearing the space-time continuum. Monica absorbs energy from Carol and Kamala, soaring into a parallel universe to repair it from the other side, inadvertently becoming trapped.
A Surprise Encounter:
In the closing scene just before the credits, Hailee Steinfeld's archer apprentice, Kate Bishop, returns to her New York apartment, sharing a slice with her faithful canine companion, Pizza Dog. Adding a lighthearted twist reminiscent of Nick Fury in the original "Iron Man," Kamala emerges from the shadows, setting the stage for what's to come.
Furry Blue Surprise:
The MCU has been dropping hints about the X-Men universe, but "The Marvels" end-credits scene is the most significant step towards a full X-introduction. Monica awakens in a peculiar white room with her mother Maria (Lashana Lynch), who, in Monica's reality, succumbed to cancer but here assumes the role of the superhero Binary.
This emotional moment takes an unexpected turn when a familiar furry blue figure enters – Dr. Henry McCoy (Kelsey Grammer), also known as Beast from "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).
The end-credits scene, with Monica's poignant reunion and the surprise appearance of Dr. Henry McCoy, aka Beast, unveils a new chapter in the MCU's expansion. As fans eagerly anticipate the interconnected stories and superhero sagas that lie ahead.
