Shakira has been honored with her own 21.3-foot tall bronze statue in her hometown Barranquilla in Columbia. The statue recreates her iconic ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ pose. The same has been curated by sculptor Yino Márquez and his students.

The ‘Waka Waka’ singer shared the proud moment on her social media handle. She furthermore shared a video of the unveiling ceremony of the statue which had the presence of her parents William Chadid and Nidia Torrado along with the mayor of Barranquilla. The 46-year-old singer also shared the picture of a plaque kept below the statue which has information penned down about her and her life. Mentioning her date of birth (February 2, 1977), the plaque describes her as having ‘a voice that moves masses.’ Furthermore, it highlights Shakira’s philanthropic activities through a foundation named ‘Pies Descalzos’ (bare feet). It is involved in focusing on the early childhood development of kids.

One of the netizens stated, “In 250 years people are going to think this was a Spanish goddess.” While a user said, “U can still feel "HIPS DON'T LIE" by looking at the statue.” A netizen took a sharp dig at the ‘El Jefe’ singer’s former beau and footballer Gerard Pique with whom she had separated after he had allegedly cheated on her. The comment said, “This statue is bigger than Pique's career.” A fan said, “Well deserved.
