Ryan Gosling’s performance in his Barbie track, ‘I’m Just Ken’ at the Oscars 2024 is being hailed as one of the best performances of the occasion. His hot pink dapper suit did not go unnoticed. While many might think that he stayed true to the theme of his movie, his outfit was also a tribute to the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
After Gosling’s Gucci outfit was revealed, netizens were quick to draw strong resemblances of his outfit with Monroe’s iconic sleeveless pink gown during her performance in the song ‘Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend’ from the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Marilyn’s ensemble was designed by William Travilla. Her background dancers were sporting a black suit with pink ties. We could see some parallels wherein in Ryan’s act, his background dancers were also seen sporting black and white suits with pink bowties, socks, and cowboy hats.
A netizen said, “Absolutely LOVED Ryan Gosling’s live performance of #BarbieTheMovie 'I’m Just Ken' reimagined as an homage to GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES with him as the Marilyn Monroe.” Joining Gosling on stage were Scott Evans, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and Mark Ronson. The Notebook actor started his performance while sharing a flirtatious glance towards his Barbie co-star Margot Robbie while Billie Eilish gave a hilarious reaction from a seat behind him. From being surrounded by Barbie cut-outs to being carried by the Kens, Ryan truly set the stage on fire. He finished the performance with guitarists Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen.
Later when he joined the crowd, he made Margot, Greta Gerwig, and Emma Stone sing the lyrics of the song. The actor’s wife Eva Mendes shared an endearing message for him on her social media handle. She shared a picture of herself in her husband’s hot pink suit and wrote, “You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed.”
