In 2023, Pennsylvania declares it's Taylor Swift's year, celebrating the star on her 34th birthday. State lawmakers, including Representatives Danielle Friel Otten, Jennifer O'Mara, Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, Robert Freeman, Benjamin V. Sanchez, Arvind Venkat, Jose Giral, and Maureen E. Madden, approved a resolution recognizing 2023 as the Taylor Swift era in her home state with a 103-100 vote on Wednesday.
Acknowledging Taylor's Triumphs
The resolution highlighted Swift's evolution beyond a pop star, acknowledging her achievements over the past year, such as being named TIME's Person of the Year. It commended her as a beacon of courage, self-acceptance, and self-determination, persisting in the face of personal and professional hurdles. The Associated Press reported these sentiments as part of the resolution.
Representative Maureen Madden, a Democrat from Monroe County, strongly endorsed the measure, expressing gratitude for the singer's impact on younger generations.
On the House floor, Representative Madden shared thoughts on her 64th birthday, contemplating the legacy she leaves behind. Emphasizing that popularity isn't derived solely from writing break-up songs, she pondered who would carry forward their collective impact.
Melodies of Home
Even after Swift left Pennsylvania as a teenager to chase her musical aspirations in Nashville, her roots linger in her songs like "Gold Rush," "Seven," and "Christmas Tree Farm." In May, Nashville's Mayor's office marked her Eras Tour stop with a proclamation, declaring it "Taylor Swift Homecoming Weekend." The city commemorated the occasion by placing a dedicated park bench in Centennial Park, bearing a plaque that reads, "For Taylor Swift. A bench for you to read on Centennial Park. Welcome home, Nashville."
Wednesday night marked Swift's birthday bash in New York City, where she partied with a star-studded guest list. The festivities continued on Instagram the next day, with Swift sharing photos capturing the memorable event.
Celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Jack Antonoff, Sabrina Carpenter, Gracie Abrams, Este Haim, Alana Haim, Zoë Kravitz, Antoni Porowski, and longtime friend Abigail Anderson were among those who joined the celebration, documented through vibrant snapshots on the "Karma" singer's Instagram.
