Jada Pinkett Smith just made a startling revelation. She shared that during one particular summer when rumors of her divorce with husband Will Smith were rampant, comedian Chris Rock called her to ask her out on a date. "He called me and basically he was like, ‘I'd love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’,” Jada told People magazine in her recent interview.

The 52-year-old actress was further quoted as saying by the magazine, “He (Chris Rock) was like, ‘Well, aren't you and Will getting a divorce?’" to which Jada set the record straight by saying, “No. Chris, those are just rumors.” Rock's attempt at courtship quickly turned to embarrassment as he ended up apologizing profusely to Jada.

    Unraveling the complex relationship tapestry

The Jada Pinkett Smith and Rock relationship has been in the spotlight, particularly after the infamous Oscars incident earlier this year. But the tangled history between the two predates the slap. Jada's involvement in the #OscarsSoWhite movement and Chris's subsequent monologue jokes about her, sparked tensions. Reflecting on those moments, Jada mentioned, “Several times I've had my feelings hurt, for sure. I've had my feelings hurt a lot by Chris.”

Oscars incident: The aftermath and beyond

While the unexpected romance bid might be new information for many, it's the recent Oscars slap that's been the talk of tinseltown. Commenting on that night, Jada told the magazine that she “thought it was a skit” and was in "as much of a fog as anybody else." Post-event, her primary concern was her husband's wellbeing. She’d asked Will Smith, “Are you okay?”

Yet, amidst these controversies, Jada aims to stay grounded. As she navigates the media frenzy and continues to support Will, she's determined to find her own path, emphasizing her own journey of self-worth and finding ways to avoid taking on responsibilities that aren't hers. The actress is all set to unveil her book titled Worthy on October 17, 2023.
