He clarified a key point, asserting that there was no intention to film a rape scene, addressing Williams' claim about advocating for the removal of a sexual assault clip. The particular scene involves Williams' character, Money Mike, cornered in a bathroom by Terry Crews' character, Damon.
Disputing Claims
Katt Williams asserted that Money Mike's character was originally scripted to be raped in the bathroom, advocating for the scene's removal, a claim Ice Cube disputes. Ice Cube vehemently stated, "I would never shoot a rape scene in a movie, especially Friday, where you actually see this happening on camera. That ain’t my style." He clarified that while the plier joke was in the script, it was never intended to be shown on camera, emphasizing it was never a topic of discussion for depiction in the film.
Ice Cube highlighted a "discrepancy" in recollections between him and Williams regarding the incident. He explained, "At that point in everybody’s career, we will listen to a certain extent, but we wasn’t gonna change the movie for it. For any actor, you know?" Emphasizing their commitment to creative choices, Ice Cube asserted that if a rape scene was intended, it would have been included in the movie, as there was no reason to omit it. However, he reiterated that such a depiction goes against his filmmaking style.
Addressing another assertion by Williams, who claimed he wrote his part for Money Mike, Ice Cube provided clarification. "The role was written, but he enhanced it. That's why Katt was so impressive in the movie. Money Mike initially had a small role, similar to the Santa Clause role, but during filming, he brought so much magic that we expanded the role, giving him more to do because he was on point."
Regarding compensation, Ice Cube stated, "If any actor is upset about their pay, then reflect on your contribution, consider where your career stood at the time and where it is now. I believe 'Friday' played a role in that journey." However, Ice Cube concluded the video by expressing his love for all the comedians he has collaborated with.
