Gigi Hadid, the Palestinian-American supermodel, has issued an apology for not fact-checking her Instagram post regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. The 28-year-old, of Palestinian descent, faced social media outrage after accusing the Israeli state of committing various crimes against Palestinian children, just before Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.

    Gigi Hadid Seeks Clarification

In a recent Instagram post, Ms. Hadid clarified her intentions and offered an apology for using an incorrect example. She explained that her aim was to shed light on the unequal treatment of Palestinian children arrested by the IDF, emphasizing that they are often denied the same rights as an Israeli child accused of a similar offense. In her post, she argued for equal human rights for all children, regardless of their nationality.

"My primary focus was on addressing human rights issues. Therefore, I want to emphasize that attacking any human being, including Jewish people, is never acceptable. Taking innocent people hostage is never acceptable. Harming someone solely because they are Jewish is never acceptable. Such actions are inherently wrong," expressed Ms. Hadid in her comprehensive two-page statement.

    Gigi Hadid Acknowledges Accountability

"I acknowledge that the power of my platform comes with significant responsibility. I'm human, and I make mistakes. Yet, I also take responsibility for those mistakes," she emphasized.

Ms. Hadid further asserted that she does not endorse the "spread of misinformation" and has consistently condemned using the Free Palestine movement as a justification for anti-Semitism. She affirmed her commitment to presenting her thoughts in a more constructive manner as she strives to draw attention to violations of international law and human rights, recognizing her responsibility to both herself and her followers.

Acknowledging the influence of her platform, she underscores the responsibility that comes with it. While admitting her fallibility as a human prone to mistakes, Hadid remains steadfast in disapproving attacks on any individual, including Jewish people.
