Hunter Schafer was arrested during a demonstration advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza. The Euphoria actor was among the protesters gathered at 30 Rockefeller Plaza prior to President Joe Biden's appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. The demonstration was organized by Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP).
In images shared by the organization on Instagram, Schafer was visible. One picture depicted the actress donning a black shirt bearing the words "CEASE FIRE NOW," while holding a banner with the message, "The whole world is watching."
Arrests Made at Rockefeller Center Demonstration
Accorinding to a report by People, the New York Police Department that 30 individuals were apprehended at 30 Rockefeller Center during Monday's demonstration and were given trespassing summonses. The NYPD did not confirm whether Schafer was among those detained.
It seems Schafer was indeed among those arrested, as a photo obtained by the New York Post shows her being escorted out of the NBC headquarters by police with her hands restrained behind her back.As of my last update in January 2022, Israel launched an offensive in Gaza following a Hamas attack in October, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians.
Biden Expresses Hope for Cease-fire
NBC News confirmed with the Palestinian Health Ministry that over 29,000 individuals have lost their lives, and more than 70,000 have sustained injuries as a consequence of the Israel-Hamas conflict.When questioned about a potential cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict, President Biden, aged 81, expressed optimism to reporters in New York City, stating his hope that it would be achieved by the following week.
According to a statement from a spokesperson for JVP to People, "Hunter was arrested at the protest, along with 50 other people." The spokesperson also praised her dedication to Palestinian freedom and her vision for a future of justice for all.
