Singer Cassie, also known as Casandra Ventura, has recently filed a groundbreaking lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, Sean "Diddy" Combs. The legal action alleges a distressing 10-year period of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking. According to the complaint filed in New York on Thursday, Cassie details a harrowing cycle that included a 2018 rape incident when she attempted to end the relationship, along with numerous instances of domestic violence.
Breaking the Silence:
After enduring years of silence and shadows, I am now prepared to share my narrative and advocate not only for myself but also for other women confronting violence and abuse in their relationships," she expressed in a statement. "As the deadline for New York's Adult Survivors Act approaches, I recognized the chance to shed light on the enduring trauma I've endured, a journey of recovery that will shape the rest of my life."
In response, Combs' attorney, Ben Brafman, rebuffed the allegations in a statement to PEOPLE, deeming them "offensive and outrageous."
From Mentor to Alleged Manipulator:
The reported complaint reveals that Ventura and Combs crossed paths in 2005 when she was 19 and he was 37. The "Me & U" artist officially joined Bad Boy Records, Combs' established label since 1993, in 2006. Soon thereafter, the document alleges that Combs asserted "complete control" over her life, effectively trapping her in a situation from which she couldn't break free.
Initially presenting himself as a paternal figure in Ventura's life, he purportedly transitioned into pursuing a romantic relationship. In September 2007, according to the complaint, Ventura reluctantly agreed to go out with him, fearing potential repercussions if she refused.
Alleged Exploitation:
At the age of 37, Ventura asserts that Combs initiated a troubling chapter by providing her with "excessive amounts of drugs," triggering a distressing battle with substance abuse. Additionally, he allegedly covered her housing and car expenses.
According to the complaint, "Every facet of Ms. Ventura's life was overseen by either Mr. Combs or his management entities."
Reports suggest that Combs displayed frequent bouts of "uncontrollable rage" and allegedly subjected Ventura to brutal beatings on a regular basis—a form of violence purportedly witnessed by numerous individuals employed by him.
Ventura's lawsuit falls under the purview of the Adult Survivors Act, a New York law enabling survivors of sexual abuse to pursue civil suits beyond the statute of limitations. According to The New York Times, the window for filing cases under this law is set to close next week, providing a limited timeframe for legal action.
