Did Britney Spears cheat on Justin Timberlake with choreographer Wade Robson? Here’s the truth

Britney Spears is making the headlines once again, thanks to her recently released memoir titled Woman in Me. The pop sensation has made quite a few shocking revelations in her book that gives an unfiltered account of her rise to fame from a 10-year-old child to a teenager. 

Spears also gets candid about her life in the public eye, her struggles of being trapped in conservatorship for 13 years, having an abortion at the time she was dating ’N Sync singer Justin Timberlake, and more.

Justin Timberlake broke up with Britney Spears via text

While many believed that Timberlake broke up with Spears because she was rumored to have cheated on him, the reality seems otherwise. As per a report by The New York Times, Spears confirmed in her book that Timberlake broke up with her over a text message. 

Further expatiating on the end of their much-publicized break-up, Spears shares that she was “devastated” after her breakup and was even considering to put an end to her music career.

When music videos did all the talking

For those who are uninitiated, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were hailed as the IT pop couple between the years 1999 to 2002. But their relationship went kaput and neither of them really spoke about it in public. Instead, they let their music videos do all the talking.

When Timberlake cast a lookalike of Spears in the video of his breakout single Cry Me a River, the rumours about Spears cheating on him with choreographer Wade Robson almost got confirmed in the eyes of the masses. While Spears never really talked about it in the past, in her memoir, she chronicles her reaction to the music video of the song. According to The New York Times, in the video, as per Spears, “a woman who looks like me cheats on him, and he wanders around sad in the rain.”

Spears recalls that the visuals of the song changed her perception in the eyes of her fans and the public. She also shares that the media, at the time, painted her as, “a harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy,” while, in reality, she was “comatose in Louisiana” while Timberlake was “happily running around Hollywood.”

The question remains, did Spears cheat on Timberlake? Well, the Baby One More Time Singer does admit to having kissed the choreographer Robson while she was in a relationship with Timberlake but, she makes it clear in her book that the incident came as reaction to the rumours about Timberlake’s infidelities.

The aftermath of the breakup

Spears further reveals how she was coerced into giving an interview to Diane Sawyer by her father the team that managed her. The pop star recollects the interview as a “breaking point” for her as Sawyer kept quizzing her on what exactly she did that Timberlake was in “so much pain.” In the words of Spears, “I felt like I had been exploited, set up in front of the whole world.”

In the excerpts from the book, released earlier by People magazine, Spears had shared that she became pregnant while she was dating Timberlake and had to go through an abortion since he was of the view that both of them were too young at the time. She eventually agreed and doesn’t consider it a tragedy.
