Cher has officially submitted a conservatorship petition for her son, Elijah Blue Allman, citing his reported struggles with substance abuse. Filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, the documents outline the iconic singer and actress's request to become the sole conservator of her son's estate. The claim asserts that Elijah is deemed "substantially unable to manage his financial resources," marking a proactive step by Cher to address the challenges posed by his recent alleged issues.
Crisis Management
The document asserts that despite Elijah being set to receive assets from a trust by year-end, an urgent need for a conservator arises to safeguard his property from potential loss or harm. This necessity is underscored by Elijah's current inability to manage his assets, attributed to severe mental health and substance abuse challenges.
Additionally, the document notes that his estranged wife, Marieangela King, is deemed unfit to serve as his conservator, citing their turbulent relationship characterized by a recurring cycle of drug addiction and mental health crises.
Financial Safeguard
The submitted document further states, "While Elijah has the right to receive regular distributions from the Trust, persistent mental health and substance abuse challenges raise concerns for [Cher]. There is apprehension that any funds allocated to Elijah may swiftly be depleted on drugs, thereby leaving him without assets to sustain himself and posing a potential risk to his life."
In October, Cher spoke out about Elijah's challenges, shedding light on her connection with her 47-year-old son. This revelation followed reports suggesting that she purportedly enlisted four individuals to intervene and forcibly remove him from a New York City hotel room in November 2022. These details emerged from divorce documents filed by King last December.
As per court documents, 36-year-old King claimed that the superstar enlisted the assistance of the men to extract Allman, whose late father is the rocker Gregg Allman, from their hotel room. King asserted that the intervention was prompted by their efforts to "reconcile" their marriage, expressing genuine concern for her son's well-being.
