Britney Spears made some shocking revelations about her professional and personal life along with her conservatorship in her memoir The Woman In Me. Amidst this, she also exposed the ‘hypocrisy’ of her former team and the press to portray her as an eternal virgin or Ms Goody Two Shoes. However, she also revealed why that was so important back then.
Talking about the same, according to a news report in People Magazine, excerpts from her book had the ‘Toxic’ singer reveal, “Given that I had so many teenage fans, my managers and press people had long tried to portray me as an eternal virgin. Never mind that Justin [Timberlake] and I had been living together, and I’d been having sex since I was fourteen." For the unversed, Britney met singer Justin Timberlake in the 1990s and they were together for three years before splitting in 2002.
The ‘Gimme More’ singer then revealed why it was so important for her team to portray her image as something else. She said, “Why did my managers work so hard to claim I was some kind of young-girl virgin even into my twenties? Whose business was it if I’d had sex or not?” She also recalled Oprah Winfrey telling her, “sexuality was no one else’s business." A huge controversy was stirred up after Timberlake appeared on The Star and Buc Wild Morning Show wherein he claimed that he continued to have a sexual relationship with Britney even after their split. He made the same claim on Barbara Walter’s show.
Spears then in an interview with W Magazine had said, “I’ve only slept with one person my whole life. It was two years into my relationship with Justin, and I thought he was the one. But I was wrong! I didn’t think he was gonna go on Barbara Walters and sell me out." She also reportedly expressed disappointment with Justin in her book.
