Amid the release week of her album, Ariana Grande made a heartfelt plea to her fans. Just a day after unveiling her seventh studio album, the singer took to her Instagram Story, urging her followers to refrain from sending hateful messages to people in her life.
In her message, Ariana Grande emphasized that anyone sending hateful messages to the people in her life based on their interpretation of the album was not supporting her and was, in fact, doing the opposite of what she would ever encourage.
Ariana Grande's Journey Through Divorce and New Love
The singer unveiled her album Eternal Sunshine on Friday, featuring tracks that delve into her divorce from ex-husband Dalton Gomez, a settlement reached in October 2023. Notably, Grande began dating her current boyfriend and Wicked costar Ethan Slater before finalizing her divorce.
Grande has refrained from publicly discussing her divorce or her current relationship. However, in Eternal Sunshine, the track Bye features lyrics expressing a sense of being hostage to tears within a relationship. During a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Grande expressed that recording the album was truly healing for her.
Ariana Grande's Journey to 'Eternal Sunshine'
Though it's been almost four years since Ariana Grande's last album, Positions, her personal life has continued to capture attention. Amidst a split from her longtime manager Scooter Braun, a prominent role in the upcoming adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, and a widely covered divorce followed by a new romance, Grande's life has been anything but quiet.
Although Grande and Slater have not officially confirmed their relationship, they have been seen together on multiple occasions since their respective splits from their spouses. Since the release of "Eternal Sunshine" on Friday, Grande's fans have flocked to social media to dissect the album's lyrics and speculate whether some of the 13 tracks were influenced by her divorce from Gomez or her rumored romance with Slater.
Grande, a devoted admirer of actor Jim Carrey, has revealed that the album was inspired in part by his 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In this sci-fi romantic drama, Carrey and Kate Winslet portray former lovers who utilize advanced technology to erase all memories of each other after a heart-wrenching breakup.
