Anne Hathaway talks about finding pieces of herself in her character in The Idea of You
The actress discussed the eagerly awaited romantic film before its debut on the closing night of SXSW.

While Anne Hathaway may not have a romantic involvement with a boy band member off-screen, that didn't hinder her from discovering parallels between herself and her character in The Idea of You. At the SXSW debut of the much-anticipated film, based on Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel.
The actress shared with People that she and her character, Soléne, perceive themselves as "adventurous" in matters of love. She reflected on the significance of portraying this role and why the film held such importance for her.

Navigating Unconventional Romance
In The Idea of You, Soléne, a divorced woman, discovers romance with Hayes (played by Nicholas Galitzine), a boy band member almost two decades younger. Hathaway expresses her excitement in contributing to the team bringing this story to fruition, describing it as a genuine thrill.
After the movie's showcase on the festival's closing night in Austin, Texas, Hathaway, 29-year-old Galitzine, and various cast members such as Ella Rubin and Reid Scott — portraying characters like Soléne’s daughter Isabelle and ex-husband Daniel — engaged in a moderated Q&A session discussing the film.
Reflecting on The Idea of You
Hathaway became visibly moved as she pondered her character and the audience's reception of the film. She expressed gratitude to the audience for their enthusiastic response, describing it as a heartfelt gift. Adding that she was drawn to make the movie because of its delightful essence, she remarked that it felt like a coming-of-age tale set in the later stages of life.
Just prior to the film's debut at SXSW on Saturday, Deadline announced that the trailer, released earlier this month, had become the most-viewed trailer for an original streaming movie, amassing an impressive 125 million views globally.
The Idea of You makes its debut on Prime Video on May 2nd.
