'Never Grow Tired': Robert Downey Jr. playfully quips after Supporting Actor win at SAG Awards 2024

Robert Downey Jr. clinched the Best Supporting Actor in a Movie award at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday night. Amidst an awards season marked by his comedic acceptance speeches, he took a moment to pay tribute to fellow actors who have inspired him over the years.

Downey Jr. faced nominations alongside Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Willem Dafoe (Poor Things), Robert De Niro (Killers of the Flower Moon), and Ryan Gosling (Barbie).

Downey Jr.'s Inspirational Shoutouts

During his speech, the actor humorously remarked that he'd never tire of his own voice, then proceeded to list the names of several actors who have inspired him, including Teri Garr, James Spader, Anthony Michael Hall, Mel Gibson, Whoopi Goldberg, Alfre Woodard, Woody Harrelson, Holly Hunter, Kenneth Branagh, and Jodie Foster.

Downey Jr. has been a force to be reckoned with throughout this awards season, garnering widespread acclaim and numerous prestigious accolades. Among his impressive list of achievements are a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Critics Choice award.

Oppenheimer also secured the awards for Best Movie Ensemble and Best Lead Actor for Cillian Murphy at the SAG Awards. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr. is nominated for an Academy Award. Should he emerge victorious, it would mark his first Oscar win, despite previous nominations for 1993’s Chaplin and 2009’s Tropic Thunder.
