'I’m in quiet revolt against all this': Tim Burton expresses discontent with his Batman and Superman in The Flash

Despite the significant hype from James Gunn and early test screenings, The Flash fell short of expectations for DC Studios. While touted as a potential game-changer in the superhero genre.

The movie received lukewarm reviews and garnered a modest $268 million globally, barely surpassing its hefty $220 million budget.

Burton's Iconic Superheroes

A major allure for fans in the film was Michael Keaton reprising his role as Batman, a character he embodied in the 1989 Batman movie and its sequel, both under the masterful direction of Tim Burton. 

Additionally, the movie featured brief appearances from various DC characters from different films. Notably, there was a surprise cameo by Nicolas Cage's Superman, a nod to the shelved Tim Burton project, Superman Lives.

In a recent interview director Tim Burton expressed that he did not particularly enjoy the use of his characters in The Flash.

"But also it goes into another AI thing, and this is why I think I’m over it with the studio," he continued. "They can take what you did, Batman or whatever, and culturally misappropriate it, or whatever you want to call it."

The Future of DC

The Last movie is the old DCEU line up Aquaman and The Lost Kindom will be hitting theaters at the end of the year.

The early test screenings of the movie have been negative and it is rumored that due to this and the recent failure of DC superhero movies in theaters, the studio has cut down the marketing budget significantly for Aquaman 2.

It remains to be seen if the sequel will recreate the success of 2017's Aquaman, which grossed a whopping one billion dollars worldwide.

In a recent interview, James Wan talked about the canceled Balck Manta spinoff and revealed that elements from that storyline have been added to Aquaman 2.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman.
