    With the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the stage is now set for the Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) 2024. This fifth edition of the tournament will feature eight teams vying for the prestigious title, with the introduction of two new teams altering the competition format slightly.

    Top international players set to compete include World No. 10 Bernadette Szocs, World No. 16 Nina Mittelham, and Nigerian star World No. 19 Quadri Aruna. They will be joined by leading Indian paddlers, including Achanta Sharath Kamal (WR 40), and Manika Batra (WR 28). 

    Additionally, UTT 2024 will showcase emerging Indian talents such as Yashaswini Ghorpade, Diya Chitale, Poymantee Baisya, Abhinandh PB, Jeet Chandra, and Yashansh Malik.

    The tournament announced on Monday that Sreeja Akula will be sidelined due to an injury. The 26-year-old, currently the highest-ranked Indian in the World Table Tennis (WTT) rankings at 22nd, was scheduled to compete for the Jaipur Patriots. However, she will miss the event due to a stress fracture and will require a recovery period of six weeks.

    UTT 2024 Format:

    Teams will be divided into two groups of four for the league stage. Each team will play a total of five ties: once against each of the other three teams in their group and twice against teams from the other group, chosen at random. Each tie will consist of five matches: two men's singles, two women's singles, and one mixed doubles.

    The top four teams on the points table will advance to the knockout stage, where the semi-finals will see Team No. 1 face off against Team No. 4, and Team No. 2 against Team No. 3. 

    When is Ultimate Table Tennis 2024 starting and ending?

    The tournament will kick off on August 22 with the group stages at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. The semi-finals are scheduled for September 5 and 6, followed by the final on September 7.

    What time do UTT 2024 matches start?

    The ties will begin at 7:30 PM IST, with six double-headers scheduled. The first tie of each double-header will start at 5:00 PM IST, followed by the second tie at 7:30 PM IST.
