After Lionel Messi celebrated Argentina's victory in the FIFA World Cup 2022 with a trophy walk, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma recreated the moment following the Men in Blue's triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. With the Indian chess team having won the double gold at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2024, it was no surprise they too would not do the iconic trophy walk.

On Sunday, September 22, the Indian men's and women's teams made history in Budapest by clinching gold in their respective categories. The jubilant Indian team was seen celebrating on the podium, proudly holding the national tricolour. In a delightful moment, Tania Sachdev and D Gukesh emerged from either side to recreate the iconic trophy walk, quickly making the video go viral and drawing cheers from fans, especially on X (formerly known as Twitter).
India at the Chess Olympiad 2024:
The Indian men's team consisted of D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, and P Harikrishna. D Gukesh made headlines by winning his second individual gold medal at the Olympiad, helping India secure its first-ever win in the men's division. He finished the tournament unbeaten with 9 wins and a draw from 10 matches. Additionally, Arjun Erigaisi earned recognition as the best performer on Board 3, with 10 wins out of 11 games. Together, they helped India achieve an impressive 21 out of 22 possible points, marking a historic moment for the nation.
As for the women's team featuring Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali Rameshbabu, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal, Tania Sachdev, and Abhijit Kunte, they, in the final round, dominated Azerbaijan with a 3.5-0.5 victory. Harika, Divya, and Vantika won their matches, while Vaishali earned a draw. However, despite their win, India's top spot was uncertain until the USA managed to hold Kazakhstan to a 2-2 draw, securing India's championship without the need for tiebreakers.
