Part of Group A in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which included India, Pakistan, Ireland, USA, and Canada, many expected the two arch-rivals from Asia to easily advance to the Super 8s. However, the tables turned when co-hosts USA got off to a flying start by defeating Canada and then surprised everyone by posting the biggest upset, winning against Pakistan in the Super Over.

While Pakistan did secure a win over Canada after losing to the USA and India, they needed the game between Ireland and the United States to go in their favour. However, rain played spoilsport, and with two wins and a loss, USA secured a spot in the Top 8 after India, leading to Pakistan's elimination. This gave Indian fans a chance to troll the Pakistan cricket team on X (formerly known as Twitter), with many even using the viral phrase "qudrat ka nizam" (nature taking its course or law of nature).
As for the clash between the USA and Ireland, it was abandoned due to rain without even the toss taking place. It was understood that a washout would knock out Pakistan and that the co-hosts would qualify for the Super Eights.
Regarding Pakistan, they have not had the best 2024 season, playing below-average cricket in the World Cup. The team and management will need to engage in extensive discussions about the team's future.
As for the Super 8s, these are the teams who have so far made it from every group:
Group 1: India (A1); Australia (B2); (C1); (D2)
Group 2: USA (A2); (B1); West Indies (C2); South Africa (D1)
No points or net run-rate (NRR) advantage will be carried forward from the first round into the Super Eight stage. All teams will begin on an equal footing and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
