Match 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was a crucial clash, with Gujarat Titans (GT) needing a win to keep their Playoff hopes alive, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) aimed to solidify their spot in the Top 4. Additionally, this game held significance for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who required GT to win to maintain their qualification hopes.

However, it seemed like CSK played into RCB's hands as they suffered a 35-run defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Despite managing to score 196 runs, CSK lost 8 wickets in the process. Fans watching the game, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to tell their favourite team not to play for RCB's qualification.

They endured a dismal start in the chase of 232 runs, losing three wickets in the first three overs, with Ajinkya Rahane (1 off 5), Rachin Ravindra (1 off 2), and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (0 off 3) falling in quick succession.

However, an impressive partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali—CSK's highest of the season—kept them in contention. Nonetheless, a stellar spell from Mohit Sharma, who had been expensive throughout the season, sealed the deal for GT. Shivam Dube (21 off 13), Ravindra Jadeja (26 off 11), along with MS Dhoni (26 off 11), couldn't contribute significantly towards the end.

Earlier, GT posted 231 runs and lost three wickets in their 20 overs. While Gill scored 104 off 55 balls (4s-9 and 6s-6), Sai Sudharsan smashed 103 off 51 balls (4s-5 and 6s-7). David Miller added 16 off 11, while Shahrukh Khan was run out for 2 off 3. Tushar Deshpande picked up two wickets for CSK, while one was a runout.
