India finds itself in a challenging position after a mixed start to the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. They will aim to address their batting struggles to improve their Net Run Rate (NRR) when they face bottom-placed Sri Lanka in their third and penultimate Group A match on Wednesday.

The tournament has not been smooth for the Women in Blue. They suffered a 58-run defeat to New Zealand in their opening match, followed by a narrow victory against arch-rivals Pakistan, where they chased down a modest target of 105 in just 18.5 overs.

About IND W vs SL W:

India's main challenge in the tournament thus far has been the performance of their batters, particularly the opening pair of Shafali Verma and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Adding to their woes, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 15 and 29 against Pakistan, retired hurt after suffering a neck injury and could be doubtful for the match against Sri Lanka.

Suppose India wants to even hope to be one of the two teams making it from Group A to the semi-finals. In that case, they not only need to win against Sri Lanka, but they must also achieve a significant victory to boost their NRR ahead of the crucial league match against defending champions Australia on October 13.

While Sri Lanka may have lost both of their opening matches, they will not be an easy opponent for India, especially following their victory in the Asia Cup final in August. Led by Chamari Athapaththu, the Lankan side has many impactful players who will have to perform well if they wish to defeat India.
