IND W vs NZ W: Indian fans express anger over controversial 'Dead Ball' decision by umpires

What just happened in Match 4 between India Women and New Zealand Women of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium? In the 13th over bowled by Deepti Sharma, Amelia Kerr took a run on the last ball, and it seemed like the over was complete. But no, Kerr noticed that Harmanpreet Kaur had the ball in her hand and wasn't throwing it back, so she decided to take another run.
Seeing this, the Indian captain immediately threw the ball towards the striker's end, where Richa Ghosh caught it and dismantled the stumps. The Women in Blue were seen cheering, and it looked like a clean run-out, but interestingly, the umpires did not give the wicket.
Kerr, who was even walking away, was called back, as both umpires explained to Harmanpreet that the ball was dead. Harmanpreet did not look convinced, and sure enough, Indian cricket fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) also expressed their anger over the dead ball decision.
However, the Indian women had the last laugh as Kerr was dismissed in the 14th over, with Pooja Vastrakar taking a good catch at extra cover. She walked back for 13 off 22 balls while the Indian team cheered.
As of now, after 18 overs, the White Ferns have scored 145 runs and losing 4 wickets. Skipper Sophie Devine is going strong at the crease. This is India's first match of the tournament, and they will next face Pakistan on October 6, followed by matches against Sri Lanka on October 9 and Australia on October 13.
