After the tenure of Rahul Dravid came to a glorious end with him and his team winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, it is now time for the new head coach Gautam Gambhir to take over. Under his leadership, Team India will play their first series against Sri Lanka, which will include three T20Is and as many ODIs.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also revised the schedule for the upcoming tour. The series will now start on July 27, with all three T20Is being held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. The ODI series will begin on August 2 at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

The BCCI stated on July 9 that Gautam Gambhir had been recommended by the Cricket Advisory Committee, which included Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshana Naik. The Board confirmed that the next series against Sri Lanka will be Gambhir's first as head coach. Interestingly, Sri Lanka will also have new leadership, with Sanath Jayasuriya designated interim head coach.

The Men in Blue last visited Sri Lanka for a bilateral white-ball series in July 2021, with Rahul Dravid as stand-in coach and Shikhar Dhawan as captain. India won the ODI series 2-1, while Sri Lanka won the T20I series by a similar margin.

The squads for both teams are yet to be announced and could be done soon with India's tour of Zimbabwe coming to an end.
