After forming a solid partnership with Rishabh Pant (60 off 59) and Ravindra Jadeja (14 off 25), batter Shubman Gill played a fantastic innings against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On Day 2, Gill scored 90 off 146 balls before being dismissed by Ajaz Patel. His innings included 7 fours and 1 six, helping India reach the first-innings total set by the Kiwis.
Gill attempted to block the delivery but wasn't quite to the pitch of the ball, which spun away to take the outside edge. Daryl Mitchell took a good catch at first slip, moving to his right. While fans were disappointed he missed his century by 10 runs, they still gave him a standing ovation from the Wankhede crowd for his brilliant innings. Virat Kohli was run out for 4 off 6, and both Mohammed Siraj and Sarfaraz Khan fell for ducks. Ravichandran Ashwin got just 6 off 13 while Washington Sundar remained not out for 38 off 36 balls.
For the Kiwis, Ajaz Patel picked a fifer while Matt Henry, Glenn Phillips and Ish Sodhi all have one wicket each to their names.
On Day 1, Ravindra Jadeja's 5-wicket haul and Washington Sundar's 4 wickets ensured that New Zealand didn't amass a big total. Daryl Mitchell fought valiantly for the Black Caps, scoring 82 off 129 balls in the scorching heat of Mumbai. Will Young added to the effort with 71 off 138 balls. Skipper Tom Latham, who opted to bat first, scored 28 off 44 balls.
