IND vs IRE, T20 World Cup 2024: Fans want Virat Kohli to forget his 'intent' and play regular cricket after dismissal

Surely, the pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York is favouring the bowlers more, as seen when India bowled Ireland out for 96 in their first game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. However, during the chase, it became evident that even the Indian batters were struggling. Virat Kohli, who came to open, was dismissed for just one run after facing five balls.

Kohli charged at a short-of-length delivery outside off, but the spongy bounce deceived him as the ball bounced more and flew off the top edge to third man. Benjamin White barely had to move to take the catch. Seeing this, fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their desire for Kohli to return to his regular style of play and not adopt the aggressive approach he was asked to use in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

As for the ongoing clash, skipper Rohit Sharma is at the crease along with Rishabh Pant, and after 10 overs, the Men in Blue have scored 76 runs for the loss of one wicket. India needs 21 runs off 60 balls to win their first Group A match.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took two each. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel also contributed with one wicket each, resulting in the Irish team being bowled out for 96 runs. Gareth Delany's 26 off 14 was the highest score, while Joshua Little contributed 14 off 13. Andrew Balbirnie (5 off 10), Paul Stirling (2 off 6), Lorcan Tucker (10 off 13), Harry Tector (4 off 16), Curtis Campher (12 off 8), George Dockrell (3 off 5), Mark Adair (3 off 2), Barry McCarthy (0 off 6), and Benjamin White (2* off 4) fell like a pack of cards.
