The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 hasn't been kind to Virat Kohli. Despite being named Player of the Tournament in previous years, this year has seen him struggle to score runs. His attempt to play with 'intent' from the start hasn't yielded results, especially evident in the semi-final against England where he departed after scoring just 9 off 9 balls.

Kohli managed to hit a six off Reece Topley before getting bowled out. It marked another disappointment for him as the ball, pitched on a good length, shaped back slightly into the right-hander. Kohli, positioned on the leg side, attempted to shovel it over mid-wicket but was outdone by the movement, with the ball flicking the top of the leg stump.

Kohli boasted impressive averages of 136.50 in 2016, 106.33 in 2014, and 98.66 in 2022, placing him among the top four for the best averages in a single edition (minimum 5 innings, any batting position), alongside Daren Sammy's 101 (with one dismissal in 5 outings) in 2014.

Following his dismissal, India continued with skipper Rohit Sharma still at the crease, but they lost Rishabh Pant for 4 off 6 balls soon after. Rain interrupted the game, and in the dressing room, Kohli was seen discussing with head coach Rahul Dravid. Pictures of their conversation quickly went viral on social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter).

Currently, the match is delayed due to a wet outfield. After 8 overs, India posted 65 runs and lost two wickets. 'Hitman' Rohit Sharma is accompanied by Suryakumar Yadav (13 off 7) at the crease, awaiting the rain to cease.

England won the toss and chose to field, with both teams remaining unchanged. Notably, all five of India's defeats in ICC tournaments since 2021 have occurred while batting first.
