Looking in good form in the second innings of the first Test between India and Bangladesh, Virat Kohli could have batted longer if he had opted for a review. On Day 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Kohli was on 17 runs when, in the 19.2 over, he was adjudged lbw by umpire Richard Kettleborough.

He consulted with Shubman Gill but ultimately decided against taking the review. The delivery from Mehidy Hasan Miraz clipped the on-side and beat him on the inside edge, hitting him low on the front pad adjacent to the off-stump. However, soon after he walked off, replays showed a spike on UltraEdge, indicating an inside edge, which even Kohli was unaware of.

Rohit Sharma sitting in the dugout expressed his anger while umpire Kettleborough was seen smirking after the replays were shown. Fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their frustration, questioning why he didn’t opt for the review if he had any doubts.

As for the match, India finished Day 2 having lost 3 wickets and scored 81 runs in 23 overs, with Gill and Rishabh Pant at the crease. They currently lead by 308 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma departed for 5 off 7 balls, while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 10 off 17.

Earlier in the day, after bowling India out for 376 runs, the Bangladesh batters struggled. Exceptional bowling from India saw the visitors dismissed in just over 1.5 sessions. Aside from the stand between Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das, nothing went right for Bangladesh, who were bowled out for just 149 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep tore through the top order before lunch, while Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj also took wickets. Bumrah claimed 4 wickets, while the others took 2 each.
