IND vs BAN: Ravichandran Ashwin's brilliant 50 rescues struggling India, Ravindra Jadeja supports from other end

After a rough start on Day 1 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, a few batters rose to the occasion. Early on, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood strong, and now Ravichandran Ashwin has followed suit, with both players reaching their respective fifties. Rishabh Pant contributed a cameo of 39 off 52, while Ravindra Jadeja is supporting Ashwin from the other end.

In the 59th over, Ashwin reached his 50 off 58 balls at his home ground. He raised his bat to acknowledge the applause, while his father, watching from the stands, enjoyed the moment. At one point, it seemed India might not even reach 200, but the two spin all-rounders have turned the game around and are now aiming for the 300 mark. Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) expressed their joy over the duo's batting performance, as they posted a 100-run partnership.

As for the match, 62 overs have been completed, and the Men in Blue have scored 254 runs for the loss of six wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56 off 118), Rohit Sharma (6 off 19), Shubman Gill (0 off 8), Virat Kohli (6 off 6), Rishabh Pant (39 off 52) and KL Rahul (16 off 52) fell at regular intervals. 

Ravindra Jadeja is on 42 off 56 and is also inching closer to his half-century while Ashwin has 63 off 65 runs to his name.

Earlier, Bangladesh chose to field after winning the toss, becoming only the ninth visiting team to put India in to bat first in a Test match on home soil. Notably, the last time India used three fast bowlers in a home Test was also against Bangladesh. In the 2019 series, India deployed Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Shami in both Tests—in Indore and the day-night match in Kolkata.
