Day 1 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai did not go as planned for the Men in Blue, as they lost four key wickets. However, the only batter to hold firm at the crease was opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who went on to score a brilliant half-century.

While Rohit Sharma (6 off 19), Shubman Gill (0 off 8), Virat Kohli (6 off 6), and Rishabh Pant (39 off 52) fell around him, the young opener stood tall to secure his 5th fifty in just 17 innings. Cricket fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) praised the Indian batter, noting how he has continued his fine form from the series against England.

As for the match, 37 overs have been completed, and the Men in Blue have posted 135 runs for the loss of four wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal is looking in good form and has now been joined by KL Rahul (11 off 38).

Earlier, Bangladesh chose to field after winning the toss, becoming only the ninth visiting team to put India in to bat first in a Test match on home soil. Six of the previous eight instances ended in draws, while Australia secured 10-wicket victories in the other two, at Wankhede in 2001 and Eden Gardens in 1969. The most recent instance was a rain-affected draw against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2017. (In 2019, West Indies opted to bowl first against Afghanistan in Lucknow and won by 9 wickets.)

Notably, the last time India used three fast bowlers in a home Test was also against Bangladesh. In the 2019 series, India deployed Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, and Mohammed Shami in both Tests—in Indore and the day-night match in Kolkata.
