After the well-deserved and razor finish win over South Africa in the just concluded ICC T20 world Cup, it becomes needless to say that, expectations from the Indian cricket team to perform exceedingly well is soaring sky-high. All eyes are now trained on the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
As per the latest report, Team India is highly unlikely to go to Pakistan to play the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per a news report in ANI, it has now been reported that India are likely to request the ICC to hold the Champions Trophy in either Sri Lanka or Dubai.
The said news report stated that, since Team India have expressed their unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, it could be held either in Sri Lanka or Dubai. The aforementioned news agency quoted a source stating that India will not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 and that it will tell ICC to hold its matches in Dubai or Sri Lanka.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which happens to be an eight-team tournament, has been scheduled to be played from 19 February to 9 March. In an earlier news report, PTI had reported that, ‘as per the initial draft for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, India and Pakistan will be playing against each other at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The said match has been scheduled to be taking place on March 1 next year (2025).

The same news report added that, in all, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has allocated as many as seven matches to Lahore, five matches to Rawalpindi, and three matches to Karachi. Amongst this, while the opening match has been scheduled to be held in Karachi, there will be two semi-finals which will be played in Karachi and Rawalpindi, which will be followed by a final match in Lahore.
Looking back, it may be noted that the Indian cricket team has not travelled to Pakistan since 2008. Last year, even during the Asia Cup matches (where India was playing), the finals were held in Sri Lanka and not in Pakistan, who happened to be the original hosts. On the other hand, the Pakistan cricket team had travelled to India to take part in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
As for the last ICC Champions Trophy, readers may know that it was played in the year 2017 and the venue for the same was chosen as England. It was here where Pakistan defeated India in the finals.
