T20 World Cup 2024: Cricket fans eager for Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli opening show in New York

While it was expected, it has still surprised everyone that Team India has gone with the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for Match 8 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland. The Men in Blue have left out Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sanju Samson for their first game in Group A.

Fans are excited to see Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's opening partnership and a showdown at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Many expressed excitement on X (formerly known as Twitter) about seeing this duo take on the Irish bowlers.

At the toss which Rohit Sharma won, he said, "We're going to bowl. Preparations have been alright. Have been managing ourselves in these new conditions. Has been challenging but we are all professionals. We played on a similar pitch and do know what to expect a little bit. I know it's going to be slightly different from what we're used to. But that's what the sport is. Not sure about the conditions too much, so thought having a target in front of us would be good. Guys missing out are Kuldeep, Sanju, Jaiswal and one more".

As for Ireland, Paul Stirling said, "Coming with pretty good prep, we were in Netherlands recently (for the tri-series). We've got plenty of matchwinners in our side, want them to show up on the day. We're looking to assess conditions early".
