Lakshya Sen becomes the first shuttler from 🇮🇳 to reach the semi-final in the men's singles at the Olympics following his comeback win against Chinese Taipei's Chou Tien Chen at #Paris2024. 👌 pic.twitter.com/2mg1AlZ7Zm
Lakshya Sen's road to semi-finals:
Being the first male Indian shuttler to advance to the Summer Games semi-finals, Lakshya Sen has already created history. Sen will compete in a medal match in Paris 2024 regardless of the result of Sunday's match. Sen won his group stage matches against Julien Carregi and Jonatan Christie. He had also won the game against Kevin Cordon, but he withdrew from his matchup after he sustained an injury.
A 22-year-old made it to the semi-finals after defeating Chou Tien-Chen after upsetting H.S. Prannoy in the Round of 16. In addition, he became the first male shuttler from India to qualify for the Olympic semi-final.
Only two Indian badminton players have won medals at the Olympics to date: PV Sindhu (silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at Tokyo 2020) and Saina Nehwal (bronze at London 2012).
Sen would make history by becoming the first male Indian badminton player to step onto an Olympic podium if he wins a medal. Sen would secure a historic gold if he defeated Axelsen in the semi-finals, but it will be difficult to overcome the current Olympic champion and world No. 1.

Lakshya Sen vs Viktor Axelsen head-to-head record
Lakshya Sen, who currently ranks 22 in the world, has a difficult head-to-head record against Viktor Axelsen, having only prevailed once in their eight meetings.
Sen's lone success against the Danish shuttler came in the 2022 German Open semi-finals, where he won 21-13, 12-21, 22-20.
Sen's sole other close encounter with Axelsen came earlier in the year in the 2024 Singapore Open first round, which also happened to be their most recent meeting.
