Paris 2024 Paralympic Games - opening ceremony
After hosting the Paris Olympic Games 2024, France has geared up to host its first-ever Paralympic Games, beginning on Wednesday, August 28. The opening ceremony is said to be a stunning spectacle, spanning from l'Arc de Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde. Approximately 4,400 para-athletes from 184 delegations, representing 22 different sports will take part in the traditional parade.

The official event will be held at the Place de la Concorde on a grand 4,500-square-meter podium. Among the international celebrities, actor Jackie Chan will carry the Paralympic flame which will start at 8:00 PM local time and in India, the event will start at 11:30 PM IST. The Paris Paralympics 2024 will be broadcast live on Sports18, with live streaming available on JioCinema in India.

Indian contingent:
India has sent its largest-ever Paralympic team, consisting of 84 members who will compete in 12 sports. Leading the charge is a 38-member para-athletics squad, including Tokyo 2020 para javelin champion Sumit Antil, who will be vying for medals in 12 events.

After winning 19 medals out of the 54 athletes sent to the Tokyo Games 2021, India will be aiming to achieve a record-breaking performance at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
While the Paris Paralympics will feature 22 sports, India will compete in 12. Returning gold medalists from the Tokyo Games will include Avani Lekhara, Manish Narwal, Krishna Nagar, and Sumit Antil who are strong contenders to secure gold once again.

What to expect from the Paris Paralympics opening ceremony?
The opening ceremony will be led by Thomas Jolly, the Artistic Director for the Ceremonies, who has revealed the details of the event. As for the opening ceremony, special seating arrangements will be made for people with disabilities, especially those in wheelchairs and their companions.
A total of 15,000 police officers will be deployed to ensure security. The Paralympic Games will run for ten days, concluding with the closing ceremony on Sunday, September 8, at the Stade de France.
