Match 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) saw MS Dhoni come to bat after wickets kept falling, managing to take CSK to 162 runs on the board. However, for the first time this IPL season, MS Dhoni lost his wicket. He was run out for 14(11), having smashed a maximum and a boundary.

PBKS bowlers were in fine form today, as they controlled the game. After CSK did not lose a wicket in the Powerplay, Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar made sure to keep a tight hold in the middle overs, not conceding a boundary.

The left-arm spinner got Ajinkya Rahane (29 off 24) and Shivam Dube (0 off 1) who was sent up the order in the same over, while Chahar sent back Ravindra Jadeja (2 off 4) who was promoted to 4. CSK brought in their impact sub, Sameer Rizvi (21 off 23), whose slow innings were brought to an end by Kagiso Rabada.
However, staying at the other end was CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who nudged around and then went on to complete his fifty before he was bowled by Arshdeep Singh for 62 off 48. Moeen Ali added 15 off 9 while Daryl Mitchell remained towards the end for 1 off 1.
For PBKS, Rahul Chahar and Harpreet Brar picked up two wickets each, while Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh got one each.
