India remained composed throughout the day despite losing a few wickets in the middle. Later Jemimah Rodrigues also reached her half-century, and towards the end of the day, Richa Ghosh and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur batted confidently, both nearing their forties. They aim to build substantial innings on Day 2 to prevent any comeback opportunities for South Africa.
Regarding the South African women's team, while Shafali was run out, the other wickets were taken by Delmi Tucker, who claimed two, and Nadine de Klerk, who had one to her name. The South African bowlers appeared inexperienced for the conditions, and they struggled under the intense heat and humidity of Chennai. The flat wicket also presented them with a formidable challenge.
