Jeffrey Vandersay vs India
After allowing Sri Lanka to post 240 runs on the board, India got off to a solid start in their chase during the 2nd ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Skipper Rohit Sharma led the charge with a brisk 64 off 44 balls, while his partner Shubman Gill contributed 35 off 44. However, following the departure of these two, the Men in Blue experienced a significant batting collapse, largely due to Jeffrey Vandersay's exceptional bowling.
With this, the host nation went on to win by 32 runs as India was bowled out for 208 in 42.2 overs. Sri Lanka now has a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series, with the first game ending in a tie.
Vandersay dismissed both Indian openers and also took the wickets of Virat Kohli (14 off 19), Shivam Dube (0 off 4), Shreyas Iyer (7 off 9), and KL Rahul (0 off 2). Apart from the openers, only Axar Patel managed to contribute significantly, scoring 44 off 44 as he tried to stabilize the innings alongside Washington Sundar (15 off 40). Vandersay and Charith Asalanka, who took 3 wickets, were the primary bowlers causing damage to the visitors.
