India's top tennis player, Sumit Nagal, is set to face Alexander Ritschard in the final of the Heilbronn Challenger 2024, which is a part of the ATP Challenger 100 event. Nagal is currently ranked No. 88, while Ritschard is ranked No. 184.

Sumit Nagal's chances to make it to the Paris Olympics:
The last time Nagal participated in this event was in 2022 when he reached the first round but had to retire against Miljan Zekic with a score of 3-6, 5-1. However, now, Nagal advanced to his second final of the year at the Heilbronner Neckarcup in Heilbronn, Germany, after he had a convincing victory against France's Luca Van Assche (6-2, 7-6(5)) on Saturday.
There will be 64 competitors in the Olympic Lawn Tennis competition fighting for the ultimate prize, and Nagal is the only Indian player hoping to qualify directly. Four athletes from each nation will be able to compete in the Olympics from among the top 56 players in the ATP rankings. The final eight berths are divided among universality, continental quotas, and Grand Slam and previous gold medal winners.
Nagal is currently ranked 88th on the live ranking list, which may affect his prospects of competing in the Olympics. With a victory over Ritschard today, he will move up to the 77th spot. However, a defeat will leave him in 88th place.
Nagal stands to gain from the four-player-per-country cap, which may propel him to 56th place in the Olympic rankings should he triumph today.
However, Nagal would be out of direct contention and would have to rely on the withdrawals of other athletes to meet his direct quota if he were to lose, ranking him 67th on the Olympic list.
