Seeing a champion get disqualified just before the gold-medal bout is truly heartbreaking. Vinesh Phogat was found to be overweight before her women's 50kg final, shattering the hopes and dreams of many, including the wrestler herself. "She was found to be 100 grams over the limit this morning. The rules do not allow this, and she has been disqualified," an Indian coach said.
Although the disqualification stands, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha met with Vinesh Phogat after she was hospitalized following the disqualification. A photo of their meeting was shared by the IOA, offering a bit of relief to fans as Vinesh appeared to be in better spirits. However, this has also sparked a wave of support on X (formerly known as Twitter), where the new trend is 'Give Vinesh Silver' started making the rounds. Not just Indians, but many who saw her bouts on the previous day have rallied behind her.
Not just the Phogat sister but even six times World Champion and Olympic winner Jordan Burroughs raised his voice for Vinesh Phogat.

Why is Vinesh Phogat not even getting the Silver medal? She reached the final fair and square, then why is she getting the last position? Don't make her play the final, but give her Silver at least 🇮🇳🙏🏼

The IOA chief said that she assured Vinesh complete support of the Indian Olympic Association, the Government of India and the whole country.
"We are providing Vinesh with all medical and emotional support. The Wrestling Federation Of India has appealed to UWW & it is following this up in the strongest possible manner. I am aware of the relentless effort made by Vinesh's medical team throughout the night so that she could meet the competition requirements," added PT Usha.
