Cannes 2022: Meera Chopra on facing discrimination by Indian designers: 'They only wanted to give clothes to Deepika Padukone'

Priyanka Chopra’s cousin and actress Meera Chopra made her debut at the 75th Cannes Film Festival to launch the poster of her upcoming movie, Safed. The actress recently made a shocking revelation wherein she opened up about facing discrimination from Indian designers who did not wish to provide clothes to her for the occasion. The actress further revealed that the designers only wished to provide clothes to a big celebrity name like Deepika Padukone .
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Meera Chopra said that she had a hard time sourcing outfits for Cannes Film Festival as the Indian designers only wished to give their outfits to bigger celebrities. The actress said, “When I was sourcing clothes for my festival. I had a hard time because most of the Indian designers wanted to give clothes to Deepika Padukone, or want to close a bigger celebrity.” Meera went on to add, “There is a lot of pressure. I was anxious and I could not sleep for three or four nights when I was sourcing my clothes because I had this pressure on my head.”
Earlier TV actress Helly Shah also opened up about facing discrimination from Indian designers who did not want to provide their clothes to her for the Cannes Film Festival. The actress had said, “We reached out to all Indian designers almost a month before the scheduled Cannes red carpet walk. Earlier, they said that they would share but when my manager tried reaching out to the designers closer to the date, everyone started saying ‘Oh, we can’t do it, or were unresponsive.”
