Kalki 2898- Here’s why the makers of Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan starrer were served a notice

With each passing day, the Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan starrer is slowly inching towards becoming one of the topmost money grossers of the film industry. But it seems that the film’s makers are now in a bit of a dilemma. There has been a legal notice which has now been issued to the film's producers. The reason? News reports state that the legal notice was sent to the film’s makers for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments.

A news report in ANI stated that, the former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has now sent a legal notice to producers and the actors of Kalki 2898 AD over hurting Hindus’ sentiments. The said notice has been sent to Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas and also the other actors in the film.

Speaking to ANI, Acharya Pramod Krishnam said that India was a land of emotions, faith and devotion and that the values of Santana Dharma should not be tampered with. He added that the scriptures of Sanatana should not be altered and that Lord Kalki Narayan was at the center of their faith, who is considered the final incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

He added that the film (Kalki 2898 AD) went against what had been described in the scriptures and was hurting religious sentiments. He said that they had noted some objections and were waiting for a response from the makers.

He also added that playing with the sentiments of Hindus had become a pastime for filmmakers and that the saints were portrayed as demons and that the freedom of expression did not mean that one could play with the faith.

The notice further read as, ‘Your movie has changed the basic concept about Lord Kalki, from what has been written and explained in Hindu puranic scriptures and, for the said reasons, the portrayal and depiction of the story of Lord Kalki is wholly inaccurate and also blatantly disrespectful to these sacred texts which are central to the religious beliefs and practices of a vast number of devotees, numbering in the hundred of crores’.

It also stated that, such a depiction had already led to confusion and further had the propensity to irretrievably tarnish the mythology and ethos of Lord Kalki in the hearts and minds of devout Hindus, which would lead to misunderstanding, misinterpretation and subsequent erosion of the Hindu faith, thereby causing extreme distress to the faith and religious sentiments of the client, and needless to say, of the wider Hindu community at large’.

The legal notice was sent (on behalf of Acharya Pramod Krishnam) by Ujjawal Anand Sharma, who happens to be the Advocate of the Supreme Court of India.

As for the film, Kalki 2898 AD has been written and directed by Nag Ashwin and stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Shobhana, Pasupathy and others.
