Writer Poet Gnanakoothan Passed Away
Gnanakoothan, also known as R. Ranganathan was a veteran Tamil poet and writer. His works basically involved social satire. The legend expired last night due to long-standing illness.
R. Ranganathan was born on October 7, 1938. His prominent works are ‘Anru veru kizhamai’ and ‘Suriyanukku Pinpakkam’. He started writing poems in 1968. Moreover, the 77-year-old man was also an associate writer of Kamal Hassan’s upcoming project ‘Marudhanayagam.’
The old hand was one of the modern Tamil poets in the Tamil literature. Gnanakoothan’s work also showed up in modest magazines like Kacatathapara, Maiyam, Vriksham. He won the SARAL Award for poetry in 2010 and was honoured with Vishnupuram Award for contributions to literature in 2014. This award was presented to him by ace Tamil writer, Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam. He is now survived by his wife and two sons.
