New York Indian Film Festival to be inaugurated by Midnight's Children

This is a big day for Deepa Mehta and herMidnight's Children, and not to forget the novelist Salman Rushdie. It has been officially announced that the critically acclaimed filmMidnight's Childrenwill mark the opening of the 13th Annual New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) on April 10. According to the organisers, Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC), Mehta, Rushdie, producer David Hamilton, cast members Sarita Choudhury and Samrat Chakrabarti will be present at the grand opening of the festival.

After the Oscar-nominated film Water, Mehta is all set to make a huge comeback at the NYIFF, "We have had a very long and creatively fruitful relationship with NYIFF. 'Fire', the very first film in the elemental Trilogy was shown there and almost every film I have made since." She added more, "It is enormously pleasing for me to be once again collaborating with NYIFF and bringing to their extremely discerning audience ‘Midnight's Children’, a film that I have been dreaming of doing since I first read the book over 30 years ago.”

Salman Rushdie was also thrilled with the news of the exclusive screening of the movie based on his novel with the same name, "I'm delighted the film of 'Midnight's Children' is to be given this preview screening in New York by my old friends at NYIFF.”Midnight's Childrenrevolves around two babies, born within moments of India proclaiming Independence from Britain, who are swapped at birth and get marked by history forever. IAAC's NYIFF which is recognised internationally as a global forum to premiere showcase of groundbreaking Indian cinema, will announce the full line-up of screenings and events for the festival by March 22.
